PRESS RELEASE
April 28, 2009

The Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority is thankful there was no loss of life nor serious injury to anyone in the fire that occurred at Joseph Floyd Manor on Saturday, April 25, 2009. CCHRA suffered no significant damage to the building since the fire was limited to one apartment.

We extend our utmost thanks to the Charleston City Fire Department, the Charleston County Fire and Rescue, Summerville Fire and Rescue and North Charleston Fire Departments that responded within minutes. We also extend our thanks to Charleston County EMS, Charleston City Police Department, CARTA, Red Cross and all other agencies who provided interim care and services to the residents and staff of the Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

CCHRA continues to monitor all of its policies and procedures to include the operational readiness of the emergency notification system to ensure proper operations. Since the fire department has not issued its final report, we are unable at this time to make a determination as to whether or not the resident will be allowed to return.

For further information, contact Karen Gorham, Director, Public Housing and Maintenance, 843-628-6204.
